Golden State Warriors Rumors: NBA insider says luxury tax a problem for the team, suggests Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon as buyout options

The Golden State Warriors are on a mission to win back-to-back NBA championships. The Dubs are poised to make another run at the title. They retained most of their championship-winning core. But they have struggled with consistency this season and are currently sixth in the Western Conference with a 22-22 record.

Sitting just ahead of them in fifth place is the Dallas Mavericks. They have a two-game lead over the defending champions. The Utah Jazz are right behind them with a 24-24 record. The LA Clippers are also on their heels at 23-24. Given how close the standings are in the West, every game feels like it's 'make or break'.

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, many are eager to see if the Golden State Warriors will make a big move. Given that they are in win-now mode, they might need to trade young players like James Wiseman in order to improve their roster. At the same time, it might not be in their best interest to part with their future.

According to anonymous NBA insiders, the team isn't expected to make a big trade at the deadline. The way Anthony Slater of 'The Athletic' sees it, Utah Jazz veteran Rudy Gay and Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon might be a good fit.

Golden State Warriors buyout targets

From the sound of things, a buyout for either Rudy Gay or Eric Gordon could be just what the Golden State Warriors need. In either case, the team wouldn't have to part ways with a young asset like Moses Moody or James Wiseman. If the team wants to remain in win-now mode without sacrificing its future, the buyout market is the best route.

Rudy Gay is having an underwhelming season with the Utah Jazz. He has played in just 33 of the team's 48 games due to lingering injuries. Gay is averaging just 4.2 points in 14.9 minutes of action. Due to his decrease in production and efficiency, the Jazz will be looking to get rid of his contract.

Over in Houston, Eric Gordon has endured playing for the worst team in the league. Although his numbers are down across the board, Gordon is still averaging 12.2 points on 42.7% shooting from the field.

It will be interesting to see how things play out for the Golden State Warriors for the rest of the season. The NBA Trade Deadline is on Feb. 9 at 3:00pm.
