The Golden State Warriors will square off against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena. This is the first of two meetings between these teams this season.
The Warriors are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference by virtue of their 18-18 record. After winning two straight games to begin 2025, they've suffered back-to-back losses: a 129-99 beatdown at the hands of the Sacramento Kings on Sunday and a 114-98 defeat against the Miami Heat two days later.
The Pistons have a nearly identical record at 19-18, good for eighth in the Eastern Conference. They are enjoying their longest winning streak of the season, having recorded five straight victories since New Year's Day. Their most recent win came at the Barclays Center, where they defeated the Brooklyn Nets 113-98 on Wednesday.

Golden State Warriors vs Detroit Pistons: Key matchups
Andrew Wiggins vs Tim Hardaway Jr.
The matchup at the small forward position between Wiggins and Hardaway is set to be an interesting one, especially given the injuries on both sides. Wiggins is averaging 16.4 points on 45.4% shooting from the field this season, including nearly 40% from deep. While Hardaway Jr.'s stats (10.5 ppg, 42.3% FG, 36.3% from three-point range) aren't as impressive, he is coming off a strong 26-point performance against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.
Buddy Hield vs Cade Cunningham
In the backcourt, the offensive power will be driven by the sharp-shooting Hield and the versatile Cunningham. With several of the Warriors' offensive weapons sidelined, Hield will need to step up, just as he did against the Memphis Grizzlies this past weekend, scoring 14 points and hitting 57.1% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Cunningham poses a multifaceted threat to the Warriors with his scoring, playmaking and defensive capabilities.
