Iowa native, Harrison Barnes was drafted by the Golden State Warriors back in 2012 as the 7th overall pick. He is a pure scorer who has averaged 14.2 points throughout his career, and was an integral part of the Warriors roster when they won their first title in 40 years, back in 2015.
However, with the emergence of Stephen Curry as a true superstar, Barnes’ touches were limited and he could not flourish in the Warriors system. After the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead to Cavaliers in the NBA Finals in 2016, they traded for Kevin Durant but they waived Barnes from their roster.
When Barnes joined the Dallas Mavericks, he proved that he was an effective scorer and averaged 19.2 points in the 2016-2017 season. Even though he has always been a decent scorer, he is not a superstar which brings us back to the Durant trade.
Draymond Green stated that when the Warriors traded for Durant, Barnes was very unhappy with the decision and Green himself. There was a rumor about how Green cried in his car and called Durant to join the Warriors after they lost to the Cavs in the finals. While all this was brewing up, Barnes was ultimately traded. Green also talked about how Barnes never invited him to his wedding because of their sour relationship.
Harrison Barnes’ 30 point games
Barnes has 22 games where he scored 30 or more in his career, out of 910+ regular season and playoffs appearances. Barnes has always been a great all-rounder player for all the teams he has played for. Last season, the Sacramento Kings took a huge step in becoming a title contending team. They were ranked 3rd in the Western Conference and were a force in the NBA. While De’Aaron Fox is at the center of the franchise, Barnes’ contributions and scoring ability is no small contribution to the team.
While they got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round by the Warriors, it was clear that their future is bright. This season they are 4th in the Western Conference and are one of the best teams in the NBA so far.
Harrison Barnes’ Teams
Barnes has played for 3 different teams, so far in his career. Barnes was drafted by the Golden State Warriors and spent 4 seasons with them. He was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks where he played a total of two and a half seasons. In the midst of the 2018-2019 NBA season, Barnes was traded to the Sacramento Kings and has been playing great basketball for them ever since.
Last season, Barnes struggled quite a lot against his former team, the Warriors, in the playoffs which cost them a chance to enter the second round. He has been a good regular season player but come playoff time, Barnes can sometimes disappear with his poor shooting performances. Improving on his consistency for the Kings will definitely help his team proceed deeper into the playoffs.
