The Haryana Gold beat the Punjab Steelers 79-71 in the first game yesterday in the UBA Championship held at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
The opening quarter saw both teams score at regular intervals, but it was the team from Haryana that dominated the quarter more than Punjab and deservingly led by a good margin of 10 points at 22-12.
The second quarter saw a tough tussle between both teams, as each side looked to seize the advantage; they scored 12 points each in the process. It took some good defending from Haryana, particularly Abhishek, to ensure that the game was within the grasp of Haryana as they finished the first half with a 34-24 scoreline in their favour.
The other side of the half saw a spree of goals from both sides as each of them looked to assume control. But despite their best efforts, Punjab failed to take the lead as Haryana finished the third with a score of 61-49 in their favour.
The fourth and final quarter saw Punjab put in their best effort to force a comeback but Haryana proved to be too good for them in the end, winning the contest by a solid margin.
