Following his 15-year playing career in the NBA, Ron Harper has built a strong presence on social media. While the five-time champion typically posts about things in and around the world of basketball, he recently gave his thoughts on a much larger topic.
Earlier this week, a 16-year-old boy in Alabama was reportedly shot and killed by policeman during a raid of the former's home. Law enforcement entered the home as part of an ongoing drug possession and distribution case. In the days following the incident, the victim's mother filed a lawsuit against the department.
As this story made the rounds of social media, Ron Harper was among the many to share his thoughts on the situation. The former Chicago Bulls guard wants to see a hefty punishment handed out to the officer involved.
"I hope they hold the office in jail for life…"

The boy was allegedly shot four times by an officer after leaving his bedroom during the raid. He was eventually rushed to a nearby emergency room but could not be saved.
As a father with children not much older than the victim, Harper was bound to be stirred by the tragedy. That is likely why he is calling for those involved to be held accountable for their actions.
Ron Harper reacted to school shooting in Wisconsin
This is not the first time that Ron Harper has taken to social media regarding a gun-related incident in the United States. Earlier this month, he sent out a heartfelt post following the latest school shooting.
Last week, a school in Madison, Wisconsin was the latest establishment impacted by a school shooting. A 15-year-old who was a student at the school, entered the building with a firearm. She reportedly went on to kill two people, a teacher and a student, before eventually dying of firearm wounds herself.
As news of the incident made its way all over the country, Ron Harper made a post on X (formerly Twitter) on the situation. He called parents to action, stating that they need to keep their firearms away from where their children can get them.
"All parents get your guns out of reach of your children’s….. another school shooting in Madison,WI"
Based on the frequency that he posts about topics like this, it appears that guns are a topic Harper is very passionate about. He is not alone, as it is something that is constantly debated about in the United States.
