Luka Doncic is having the best season of his five-year career. The Dallas Mavericks star is currently leading the NBA in scoring. He is averaging 34.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 50.7% from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range, and 74.0% from the free-throw line.
Doncic has established himself as a true star in the league, earning plenty of nicknames along the way. In his rookie season, Luka was nicknamed "El Matador" and "The Matador" by Mavericks player development coach Mike Procopio. Interestingly enough, the organization trademarked the nickname.
While "El Matador" may have been Doncic's first NBA nickname, he was nicknamed "Wonderboy" and "El Nino Maravilla" while playing in Spain. The Dallas Mavericks star's most popular nickname is "Luka Magic", which was given to him by Mavericks announcers.

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley nicknamed Doncic "Baby Bird" as an homage to Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird. Both players have been able to dominate despite lacking the athleticism of most stars of their era. The three-time All-Star was most recently nicknamed "Grill Master" by Mavericks teammate Dorian Finney-Smith.

JJ Redick explores trade possibilities to pair Luka Doncic with a second star
It is no secret that the Dallas Mavericks would like to acquire a co-star to serve as Luka Doncic's running mate. Doncic has been phenomenal throughout his career, averaging 27.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting 46.4% from the field, 34.0% from 3-point range, and 73.8% from the free-throw line.
NBA analyst JJ Redick, who played with Doncic in 2020-2021, shared that he believes Dallas has a strong supporting cast, but they should be involved in the sweepstakes if Bradley Beal is made available. He said:
"It's just a matter of who would be available, and I like the idea of Bradley Beal a lot. ... It's obviously gotta be somebody that's comfortable playing off the ball. Sort of oscillating between on the ball and off the ball, and most stars are ball-dominant.
"I think the interesting thing about Bradley Beal is his ability to sort of play off the ball as a cutter, coming off pin downs, spot up shooting, and then getting into ISO, pick and roll play so I think that's sort of the optimal guy."
Redick included Zach LaVine and Pascal Siakam as players whose markets the Mavericks should be monitoring. It is unclear if any of the three players will become available. If they do, however, expect Dallas to look to get involved.
