Superstar shooting guard Klay Thompson has played 651 regular season games and 145 playoff games since being drafted in 2011. However, he never received a single technical foul until Tuesday night’s 134-105 blowout loss against the Phoenix Suns.
Thompson’s frustration began during a back-and-forth exchange with Suns' All-Star Devin Booker with 7:24 left in the third quarter.
A few minutes later, Thompson got so frustrated that he had to be held back after the two players came face-to-face. His emotional outburst quickly earned him two quick technical fouls and an automatic ejection with 6:31 left in the third quarter. Booker also received one technical for the altercation.

Klay Thompson made sure to make his first career ejection worthwhile though. Thompson continued to talk trash to the Suns’ bench as he walked off the floor. He appeared to be repeatedly referencing the fact that he has four rings compared to the Suns who have zero.
The Warriors were trailing 83-77 at the time of Thompson's ejection. Phoenix went on a 51-28 run after Thompson was kicked out of the game. Thompson also struggled offensively as he finished with just two points on one of eight shooting from the field.
The game had a playoff atmosphere prior to Thompson's ejection as Draymond Green, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton had already received technicals.
After Thompson left the game, another technical foul was called in the third quarter, marking the seventh technical of the quarter. According to the TNT broadcast, this was the most technicals called in a quarter since the 1996-97 NBA season.
Devin Booker on Klay Thompson’s first career ejection
Following the game, Devin Booker spoke about Klay Thompson’s first career ejection in his postgame interview with TNT. Booker explained that his altercation with Thompson was nothing personal as the two just got caught up in the heat of the moment.
He also highlighted the respect he has for Thompson:
"I love Klay Thompson. I have from the beginning. From the draft, coming out I said I wanna be Klay Thompson.
“That doesn’t excuse us from competing against each other and talking a little mess with each other. So have fun with it. Big fan of his and his competitive nature. That’s that."
It’s been a rough start to the season for Thompson. In four games, he has averaged just 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 35.6% shooting in 22.3 minutes per game. He will be looking to bounce back in his team's next match against the Miami Heat at home on Thursday.
