Growing up in a suburb near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was brought up in a Jewish family. When his grandparents immegrated to America from Russia, they changed their surname from Chabenisky to Cuban.
While Mark Cuban might have been brought up in the Jewish faith, it is not something he fully practiced. This is mainly because his father was not a fully practicing member of the faith for his own personal reasons.
In an interview with the Atlanta Jewish Times, Cuban touched on his faith growing up. He said that he followed in his father's actions mainly because he was more interested in playing sports than going through with a bar mitzvah.
"My dad kind of rebelled against organized religion, but never against his Jewish faith," Cuban said. "But he sat me down one day and told me that it was my decision."

"He had not been bar mitzvahed, and I choose to play football on Saturdays instead of going to Saturday school. So, while that was not a feature of my life, growing up Jewish has certainly been. It’s something I’m very proud of."
Even though he might not fully embrace the Jewish faith, it is still an important part of his life.
Mark Cuban spoke out against Kyrie Irving
Over the weekend, the Dallas Mavericks sent shockwaves through the NBA. After requesting a trade on Friday, All-Star guard Kyrie Irving is on his way to the Western Conference.
While Irving is an incredible talent, he has had some troubles outside of basketball. One of his biggest came earlier this year, when he posted a link to a movie on his Twitter that had antisemitic undertones.
The Brooklyn Nets suspended Irving for this, and many people chimed in around the league. Among those who spoke out was Mark Cuban. His biggest issue with the situation is that Irving was not shown how impactful his platform as an NBA star is.
“If there was just some dude on the street corner saying what Kyrie said, or Kanye said,” Cuban said, “you’d just assume they’re crazy and keep on walking, right? But when they’re a celebrity, you can’t do that, because you have a platform.”
Cuban followed up by saying that he doesn't think Irving is a hateful person. Seeing that the Mavericks just pulled off this blockbuster deal, it's safe to say Cuban did not take Irving's previous actions personally.
