After Zach Edey made his Summer League debut for the Memphis Grizzlies on July 8 against the Utah Jazz, he has missed every game after that with an ankle injury. He sustained the injury early in the game but returned later to force overtime. The Grizzlies eventually lost that game 97-95.
The Grizzlies are slated to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday in Summer League action in Las Vegas. Memphis has been dominant so far, winning all three games. The Pelicans are at the opposite spectrum having lost all three of their games.
Memphis will be going for the clean sweep but it might need to do so without Zach Edey, as there has been no clear indication from the Grizzlies camp regarding when he will be back in action. Memphis is arguably proceeding with caution as it doesn’t want to hamper the long-term health of its ninth pick from the 2024 draft.

Having said that, a gametime decision could be made on Edey’s availability as he has already had close to 10 days of rest and recovery time.

How did Memphis Grizzlies’ Zach Edey fare on his Summer League debut?
Zach Edey had a debut to remember against the Utah Jazz as he dropped 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. He was instrumental in taking the game to overtime after he tipped in a missed attempt by Jake LaRavia. Even though Memphis lost the game, Grizzlies fans saw what they needed from their rookie.
The Purdue Boilermakers product spoke about the importance of getting used to the NBA after the loss:
“It was great. Just trying to get comfortable, trying to learn the system, trying to learn how to play with everybody and getting comfortable on the NBA floor. It was fun.”
The Memphis Grizzlies have a star in their hands. If the team can stay healthy, they will surely have a bounceback season in 2024-25.
