According to Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian, Zach Edey will not play for the Memphis Grizzlies when they take on the Miami Heat for the NBA 2K25 Summer League championship game on Monday.

The ninth overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft's last appearance was when the Grizzlies beat the New Orleans Pelicans 88-77 on Thursday. Edey recorded six points, three rebounds and one block in under nine minutes before being pulled out of the game.

What happened to Zach Edey?

Zach Edey sprained his right ankle during the Grizzlies' matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday. The seven-foot-four big man's right foot landed on Jordan Ford while defending the Pelicans guard's lob attempt with over three minutes left in the second quarter.

After the fall, Edey stood up with a little help from the training staff. He walked off of the court without any assistance but was ruled out of the contest.

Edey had also sprained his left ankle during his debut for the Memphis Grizzlies on July 8 against the Utah Jazz in the Salt Lake City Summer League. The sprain led to him missing the Grizzlies' next five games.

The former Purdue star had just returned to action for the team when he suffered the latest sprain to his other ankle. However, the two sprains are not considered serious, and he's expected to start training camp in the fall.

How has Zach Edey fared in the NBA Summer League so far?

Zach Edey only participated in two games for the Memphis Grizzlies in the two Summer League competitions they participated in.

Edey displayed his efficiency in his debut performance against the Utah Jazz with a double-double of 14 points, 15 rebounds, one assist and two blocks. He also shot 58.3% from the field as he led the Grizzlies' winning effort in a 97-95 overtime win against the Jazz.

Since his spectacular debut performance, Edey played only nine minutes against the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA 2K25 Summer League before being ruled out yet again due to injury.

However, even without their star player, the Memphis Grizzlies have maintained a good record, as they went 2-1 in the Salt Lake Classic League and are 5-0 in the ongoing Summer League. They will look to win the Summer League championship when they face the Miami Heat in the finals on Monday.
