Okoro honed his basketball skills at McEachern High school, leading his team to the region title, averaging 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as a freshman. In his senior season, he averaged 19.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game, leading his team to a 32-0 record. He scored 16 points in the final to win its first Class 7A state championship. As a five-recruit, Okoro committed to play college basketball at Auburn, becoming the second-highest ranked player to commit in program history.
