Israel has been selected by the international basketball federation FIBA to host the 2015 3×3 U18 Basketball World Championships. The championship will be held in May or June 2015. According to a FIBA press release, the exact dates and the name of the host city will be revealed later this year.
The 2015 Championships will be the fourth edition of the championship since its inception in 2011. It has been previously held in Rimini, Italy (2011), Alcobendas, Spain (2012) and Jakarta, Indonesia (2013).
The FIBA 3×3 U18 World Championships are held on an annual basis, except the year of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). 3×3 will once again be the only basketball discipline played at this summer’s Youth Olympic Games, in Nanjing, China (16- 28 August 2014).
The tournament will follow the same competition format as the Open World Championships with men’s and women’s tournaments as well as individual contests. 48 teams (24 men’s and 24 women’s) from more than 35 countries are expected to compete in a four-day event in Israel.
