Ja Morant Draft History
Ja Morant

Two-time All-Star Ja Morant is one of the best point guards in the NBA. Fans love to watch his electrifying moves and he is famous for his thunderous dunks. He is presently associated with the Memphis Grizzlies and the upcoming 2023/24 season will be his fifth season in the NBA.

Last offseason, the guard extended his rookie contract, to a five-year $197 million deal. The deal also involves certain incentives: if he makes it to the All-NBA First Team, then the contract value can go up to $233 million.

While Morant is a superstar-caliber player, he has been involved in multiple off-court controversies in recent seasons. The 24-year-old lost around $60 million and a 25-game suspension for the 2023/24 season for violating the NBA’s policy about guns.

Ja Morant Draft

After his sophomore year with Murray State, Ja Morant was picked by the Memphis Grizzlies as the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. The Grizzlies rewarded him with a four-year $39.6 million deal.

Morant had a thriving rookie season where he averaged 17.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 7.3 assists and earned a selection in the NBA All-Rookie First Team. His points and assists numbers were highest among all the rookies and all this made him win the NBA Rookie of the Year title at the end of the season.

Ja Morant College

Morant attended Murray State for his college ball and played there for the two seasons. In his freshman year, he scored an average of 12.7 points, and 6.3 assists and procured a First Team All-OVC selection that includes outstanding athletes from the respective conferences.

Morant caught the eye of multiple scouts in his sophomore season and thus was selected among the top 20 players to be invited to Chris Paul’s Elite Guard camp. In his second season of college, he averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 assists per game and also became the only player in NCAA history to average at least 20 points and 10 assists per game in a single season.

After his sophomore season, Morant decided to forgo his remaining college eligibility and declared his name for the NBA Draft.
