What was the Ja Morant trade rumor?

Ja Morant is one of the most explosive point guards in the NBA today. He has shown flashes of Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook with the way he can take-off for a huge throwdown. Even though Morant has been struggling with off-court issues, there is no denying that the man has all the talent in the world to be successful.

Morant is currently serving a 25 game suspension because of him flexing firearms twice, on social media. With him out, the Grizzlies have started 0-4 this season. Throughout his career so far, Morant has averaged 22.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.8 rebounds on 47.2% shooting, including 32.1% from deep. Memphis is certainly missing Morant’s dynamic scoring and playmaking this season.

The two-time All-Star is a threat inside, but not so much on the outside. He has not yet developed into a 3-level scorer. While he can shoot the rock from the outside, it has not been consistent. The 3-pt average for guards in the NBA is around 34.5% and Morant is currently below that. If he develops his outside shot, it may help the Grizzlies take further strides in the playoffs.

However, Morant made Memphis a threat in the west and has been competing in the playoffs for the last three seasons. While the Grizzlies have not yet reached the conference finals, they are on the cusp of being a serious threat in the west.

Ja Morant’s Trade Rumors

There have been many hypothetical trade scenarios created for Ja Morant that may or may not suit him. The one that stands out in particular is the New Orleans Pelicans trade idea. Multiple sources and websites have pointed towards a hypothetical blockbuster trade involving Pelicans’ star Zion Williamson and Ja Morant of the Grizzlies.

1. Both these stars have had multiple off court issues. Williamson struggles with keeping his body in shape for the season and Morant with his firearm antics. A trade would make sense for the Pelicans as they do not have a floor general.

Morant would be the perfect fit for the Pelicans as a pick and roll between Brandon Ingram and Morant would be fun to watch. Meanwhile for Zion, he can be the lone superstar that he wants to be in Memphis and not share the ball much, like he does with Ingram. It might also just result in another head-ache for these teams as both players lack discipline off the court.

2. Another potential trade rumor was to trade Ja Morant to the Lakers. Morant is just 24 years of age and is making some silly mistakes in his young career. Being around LeBron James and Anthony Davis could help Morant grow as a person and make better life decisions. LeBron has been a great leader on and off the court for most of his career. He has the ideal blueprint for the younger generation to follow.

3. There are many other teams that Morant can possibly join, but there are very few organizations like the San Antonio Spurs under Gregg Popovich. If Morant played for the Spurs, he would have to answer to Coach Pop. Popovich is one of the best coaches of all time, and is known for being rigid and strict.
