He played college basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers, a team where he demonstrated his capability to be considered as a strong 2-way player. Springer was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2021 NBA Draft in the first round as the 28th pick. However, he was traded to the Boston Celtics, where he won an NBA championship as a bench player in the 2023-24 season.
