Born on November 3, 2001, in Pasadena, California, LaRavia played college basketball for Indiana State from 2019 to 2021. During his time at Indiana State, LaRavia established himself as a versatile forward, averaging 9.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game over two seasons. His performance earned him a spot on the MVC All-Newcomer Team (2020), MVC All-Freshman Team (2020), and an All-MVC Second Team selection in his sophomore year.

He then attended Wake Forest University and played for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons men's basketball team from 2021 to 2022. In his junior year with the Demon Deacons, he averaged 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. He shot 55.9% from the field, 38.4% from three-point range, and 77.7% from the free-throw line. LaRavia's performance helped lead Wake Forest to a successful season, and he was named to the All-ACC Second Team (2022) and Second-team All-MVC (2021) honors during his stint with Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Jake LarRavia was selected 19th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves and played in the NBA G League for the Memphis Grizzlies from 2022 to 2024.
