Jalen Duren is an American professional basketball player who plays in the NBA. Born on November 18, 2003, in New Castle, Delaware, Duren went to Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He played basketball, football and baseball in high school.

While making basketball his main sport, he also earned several awards for the game in high school. These include First-Team All-League, Second-Team All-State, Maxpreps Freshman All-American, and MaxPreps Sophomore All-American.

For college, Duren went to University of Memphis, where he established himself as a top basketball player in one season. In his freshman year, he earned First Team All-AAC honors, averaging 12.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.

Jalen Duren was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick. However, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons on draft night.

Standing at 6-foot-10 and weighing 250 pounds, Duren plays as a center and is known for his athleticism and strong presence in the paint. With his exceptional skills, he has the ability to play on both ends of the court. Duren is now set to start his journey with the Detroit Pistons in the 2023-24 season.

Jalen Duren’s entry into the NBA took an unexpected turn on draft night. Initially picked by the Charlotte Hornets, he found his new home with the Detroit Pistons through a three-team trade.

The Pistons made a significant move by sending both their 13th and 52nd overall picks to the Hornets. In return, the Knicks played their part by sending Kemba Walker over to the Pistons. This set of transactions came as a surprise to many, given that it was widely anticipated Duren would remain with the Hornets.

The change in plans reportedly stemmed from the Hornets’ decision-making after they secured Jaden Ivey with the fifth overall pick. With Ivey on board, the Hornets decided to proceed with the trade, allowing Duren to start his NBA career with the Detroit Pistons.
