Jalen Tyrese Johnson is an American basketball player who is the starting power forward of the Atlanta Hawks. Born on December 18, 2001, Johnson was a five-star rated athlete in high school. He then played one season for the Duke Blue Devils in the 2020/21 college season.

At Duke, Johnson showcased his explosive and ultra-athletic style of play. During his 13 games as a Blue Devil, Johnson averaged 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. However, in February 2021, he made the decision to forgo the remainder of Duke's season to prepare for the draft.

The Atlanta Hawks selected Johnson with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. While initially coming off the bench, Johnson's dedication and perseverance led to a breakout season in 2023/24. Jalen Johnson averaged 16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game during the season. He shot 51.1% from the field, including 35.5% from the distance.

Jalen Johnson Trade

As of May 2024, Jalen Johnson remains with the Atlanta Hawks and has not been traded. Throughout late 2022 and the summer of 2023, there were widespread rumors and discussions about potential trades involving Jalen Johnson, with many NBA teams expressing interest.

These speculations stemmed from the dynamic between Jalen Johnson and fellow young forward John Collins. Many believed that Johnson should be the backup power forward behind starting power forward John Collins. Many even proposed trading Jalen Johnson for more draft capital as compensation. However, Jalen Johnson's game continued to develop which stopped the trade rumors.

In a surprising turn of events, John Collins was traded to the Utah Jazz in the summer of 2023. This pivotal trade of Collins to the Utah Jazz solidified Johnson's role as the starting power forward for the Hawks in the 2023/24 season. Johnson has improved on both ends of the court, establishing himself as a key asset for the Hawks. With his growing impact and contributions to the team, it appears unlikely that Johnson will be traded in the foreseeable future.
