James Akinjo is a professional basketball player and plays for the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G League, an Milwaukee Bucks affiliate. He remained undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, and later the Atlanta Hawks signed him for the 2022 NBA Summer League. He also played for the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks G Affiliate) and the Stockton Kings (Sacremento Kings G Affiliate) in the NBA G League. In February 2024, he was traded by the Kings to the Bucks G affiliate, Wisconsin Herd, and through the waive-and-affiliate process, he joined the Herd by October.

Akinjo began his college career at Georgetown University and played for the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team in 2018. Akinjo later joined the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team in 2020. He graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 2022 and played for the Baylor Bears men's basketball team, where he averaged 13.5 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds as a senior. Akinjo was named Third-team All-American by AP, USBWA, NABC, and SN, First-team All-Big 12 both in 2022, and First-team All-Pac-12 in 2021. Additionally, he earned a Big East All-Freshman Team selection in 2019, becoming the Big East Freshman of the Year.
