James Akinjo is an American professional basketball player who plays point guard for the Wisconsin Herd of the 2024-25 NBA G League as of December 2024. Akinjo started his NBA career after being signed by the Atlanta Hawks for the 2022 NBA Summer League, as he remained undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. Additionally, he played for the Westchester Knicks in the 2022–23 NBA G League and the Stockton Kings in the 2023–2024 NBA G League. As of December 12, 2024, Akinjo has appeared in 42 games, averaging 12.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game.

Akinjo graduated from the Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond, California, where he averaged 20.7 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game as a senior. He was named the San Francisco Chronicle Metro Player of the Year, the Bay Area NewsGroup Player of the Year, and the SportsStars Magazine NorCal Player of the Year, according to his college profile. According to SFGate, his high school coach was Bill Mellis. He was a four-star-rated player by Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN. Akinjo initially attended the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team, which represented Georgetown University for two seasons, where he earned the Big East Freshman of the Year and the Big East All-Freshman Team selection, as per his college profile. He later joined the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, and played for the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team for the junior season. After his junior year at Arizona, Akinjo transferred to Baylor University for his senior year.
