James Monteinez Wiseman, also known as James Wiseman, is an American professional basketball player in the NBA who plays for the Detroit Pistons. He stands at a staggering height of 6’11” and has a wingspan of 7’6”. Wiseman was born on March 31, 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee, US and plays as a center.
Wiseman played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers. He started all three games, averaging 19.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3 blocks, 0.3 assists and 0.3 steals per game.
Prior to the Memphis Tigers, Wiseman went to Ensworth School for high school and was soon named amongst the top 25 players in the recruiting class of 2020. He helped his high school team reach the semifinals of the Division II-AA of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, for which he was named MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honorable mention.
Wiseman was selected for Team Penny in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League and announced his transfer to Memphis East High School. He rose to become the number one overall recruit in the 2019 class by ESPN as he led his team to the TSSAA Class AAA Championship.
He was the leading scorer, for which he earned MaxPreps Junior All-American third team recognition. He helped his team win the Region 8AAA championship and reach the final of TSSAA Class AAA where they lost to Bearden High School. He won the Tennessee Class AAA Mr. Basketball Award, Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year and Gatorade National Player of the Year for his high school performances.
