JaVale McGee is a professional basketball player who plays the position 5 for the Sacramento Kings. McGee was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft after playing two seasons of college basketball at the University of Nevada. In Washington, McGee spent over four seasons as a backup center providing energy, rebounding and defense off the bench.
After being traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2012, McGee finally had the opportunity to become the starting center for the team and increased his scoring, rebounding and shot blocking numbers as a result. He helped the Nuggets reach the playoffs two times in three seasons before joining the Philadelphia in 2015 and the Dallas Mavericks in 2016. McGee then signed with the Golden State Warriors where he was a key role player in their championship teams in 2017 and 2018.
McGee hit another career milestone in 2019 when he joined LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. As their starting center, McGee averaged double digit numbers in points scored and provided excellent interior defense and rebounding. He excelled throughout the Lakers’ playoff run, protecting the rim on defense while running the floor and executing great lob passes on offense. McGee proved to be an invaluable veteran presence and contributor in the Lakers’ 17th championship title.
Now entering his 17th NBA season, with the majority of his career spent with the Denver Nuggets and Cleveland Cavaliers, McGee has clearly proven that he is a valuable role player for contending teams. While he has yet to make an All-Star team in his long career, McGee’s length, shot blocking ability and championship experience should allow him to remain an impactful two-way center for seasons to come.
JaVale McGee's Height
At 7 feet tall, JaVale McGee's extraordinary height gives him a major advantage on the basketball court. His 7'6" wingspan allows McGee to grab rebounds and block shots with ease. He has pulled down over 4,000 rebounds in his NBA career thanks in large part to his size and length. McGee's height also makes it possible for him to throw down powerful dunks that few players can match. On offense, he is able to score over smaller defenders in the post.
JaVale McGee Weight
At 122 kg (270 lbs), JaVale McGee has a strong and muscular frame for an NBA center. His sheer bulk and power allows McGee to overpower opponents down low on offense. It also helps him hold position defensively and keeps opponents from backing him down easily in the post. McGee's impressive weight and strength are advantages on both ends of the floor.
