Jerami Grant is a 6 ‘8” forward currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA. He was originally drafted 39th overall in the 2014 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, after playing two years of college basketball for Syracuse University.
After two years with the 76ers, Grant was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in November 2016. His role expanded with the Thunder into a key rotation player over three seasons. Grant increased his averages to 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 49.7% from the field and 35% from deep in the 2017-2018 season. The next season, his scoring jumped again to 13.6 points per game while starting over 80% of his games played.
Grant's steady development was a boost for some strong Thunder teams that made the playoffs each of his three years there. His two-way skillset and athleticism on the wing became an essential part of Oklahoma City's success.
In 2019, Grant signed a reported three-year contract with the Denver Nuggets. In his lone season as a core rotation player for Denver, Grant averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He also shot 38.9% from three on 4.6 long-range attempts each night. Grant's contributions were pivotal in the Nuggets reaching the 2020 Western Conference Finals during the Orlando bubble.
After the 2019-2020 season, the Detroit Pistons acquired Grant via trade from the Nuggets. His first year with Detroit represented a breakout season, as Grant posted career-highs in points (22.3 ppg), rebounds (4.6 rpg), and assists (2.8 apg) while starting in all the games. He led the young Pistons squad in scoring while shooting 35% from three on 6.3 attempts per game. After yet another solid individual season, the Trail Blazers traded for Grant over the 2022 offseason.
Now in Portland, Grant emerged as an All-Star candidate and became the number two scoring option behind Damian Lillard. In the season he averaged 20.5 points while shooting 51.5% from the field and 40.4% from three-point range. In the 2023-24 season, Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks and Grant is now the number one scoring option of the Thunders along with young Sheadon Sharpe.
