Jewell Loyd is a professional American women's basketball player for the Las Vegas Aces. On January 26, 2024, Jewell Loyd trade unfolded as she was traded from the Seattle Storm to the Las Vegas Aces in a three-team blockbuster deal after spending 10 years with the Storm. The trade also involved Kelsey Plum, a three-time All-Star, being sent to the Los Angeles Sparks, and a #2 draft pick was sent to the Seattle Storm, ESPN reports. Loyd played 10 years with the Seattle Storm after getting drafted first overall by them in the 2015 WNBA Draft. She is famously known as the “Gold Mamba”, a nickname given by legendary Kobe Bryant. She received the 2015 WNBA Rookie of the Year in her debut year.
In addition to the WNBA, Jewell Loyd has played basketball overseas in the EuroLeague, the Chinese League, the Korean League, the Turkish League, and the Spanish League for teams such as Galatasaray, Shanxi Flame, Guri KDB Life Winnus, Botaş SK, and Perfumerías Avenida, respectively.

Jewell Loyd completed her high school at the Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois. She scored an average of 24.8 points and 11.9 rebounds per game in her high school basketball career. She had her jersey number retired by her high school and it was the first number retired in the school's history.
She studied at Notre Dame from 2012 to 2015. During her college career, she achieved many accolades, including the 2015 ACC Player of the Year, the ACC Tournament MVP in 2014 and 2015, the 2013 USBWA National Freshman of the Year, the 2013 Big East Freshman of the Year, and the 2015 espnW National Player of the Year. She scored 1,909 points in her college and got picked number 1 overall in the WNBA.

Gwendolyn Davis-Loyd and Calvin Loyd are the parents of Jewell Loyd. In an interview with NBC Olympics, Loyd said that her mother, Gwendolyn Davis-Loyd, is from Mississippi, and her father, Calvin Loyd, is from Georgia. Her mother is a retired educator and authored a book, “The Invisible Disability”, writing about her experience with her daughter's disability, dyslexia. Her father ran a commercial cleaning business out of Lincolnwood. Jewell Loyd has an older brother, Jarryd Loyd, who played basketball at Valpo and overseas for four years. As she shared in an interview with Nike on YouTube, Loyd fell in love with basketball because of her brother.
Loyd likes to cook, play tennis and piano, and watch soccer. Her favorite workout is 5-on-5. She is the Head Coach of Champions of Change, Seattle. She has partnered with nationally recognized organizations, The Dyslexic Advantage and Eye to Eye, to help children with learning disabilities.
