Joel Hans Embiid also known as ‘The Process’ is a professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. He was first attracted to volleyball and soccer but began to play basketball at the relatively late age of 15. Luc Mbah a Moute, a Cameroonian NBA player at the time noticed Embiid’s potential at a basketball camp in Cameroon and helped him relocate to the United States at the age of 16 to play basketball. Before joining the University of Kansas, he was playing high school basketball for Montverde Academy and The Rock School in Florida. Although he showed great flashes of potential, his time was cut short by frequent injuries. Embiid declared for the 2014 NBA Draft and was drafted by the 76ers as the third pick of the draft.

Embiid’s NBA career began with much speculation as he did not play at all in his first two seasons because of foot and knee injuries. In his first full season in 2016-17, he was voted into the NBA All-Rookie First Team despite having played only 31 games. Embiid is a seven-time NBA All-Star, and the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2023 season. He was the scoring champion of the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons, making him the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to achieve this feat.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Joel Embiid was a crucial part of Team USA's rotation. Embiid averaged 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 16.6 minutes per game across five starts in the USA Basketball Showcase.

Embiid's best performance came during the showdown against the 2023 World Champions, Germany, on July 22, 2024. Embiid delivered finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block in just over 21 minutes of play (21:09).
