John Collins has become a standout power forward for the Atlanta Hawks ever since he got drafted by the team in 2017. Coming out of Wake Forest University after his sophomore season, Collins was selected by the Hawks with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft.
Right from his rookie season, it was clear that Collins could provide an immediate spark for Atlanta as an athletic and skilled big man. He made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2018 after averaging 10.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 57.6% from the field in 74 games played.
Collins took on an increased role in his second season, starting in 59 of the 61 games he appeared in during the 2018-2019 campaign. He posted impressive averages of 19.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 56.0% from the field and 34.8% from three-point range.
In the 2019-20 season, Collins showed exceptional play, but he was limited to only 41 games in the season. In the games he did play, Collins poured in 21.6 points per game while grabbing 10.1 rebounds. He also expanded his shooting range by knocking down 40.1% of his three-point attempts.
Collins was a key contributor in helping the Hawks reach the playoffs in the last three seasons. In 2020-21 the Atlanta Hawks reached the playoffs but unfortunately lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the semis. Collins played a major role in the playoff run, averaging 13.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
In the 2022-23, Collins was yet again an essential piece as the Hawks made it to the first round of the playoffs as the #8 seed. They put up a good fight but ultimately lost in six games to the Boston Celtics, the #1 team in the East. Collins contributed 11.3 points per game during the playoff series with the Celtics.

It also enables Collins to shoot over most defenders, helping him connect on 368 three-pointers in his career so far.
John Collins Wingspan
With a wingspan stretching 6 feet 11 inches, John Collins is able to snatch rebounds other players cannot reach. His long arms allow him to grab boards in crowds and keep balls alive. This helps explain Collins’ ability to already secure 3,019 rebounds in his career so far. His wide reach also bothers opponents’ shots and passes on defence. Collins makes full use of his impressive wingspan at both ends of the court.
