Jonathan Isaac was drafted sixth overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2017 NBA Draft. Ever since he entered the league, Isaac is known for his defensive presence and standing firm on what he believes in. He claims that he is not just an NBA athlete, but also a guy who can use his platform to spread positivity all around the world.
Isaac is a shot blocking defensive anchor for the Magic who can also shoot from beyond the arc. In the 2019/2020 NBA season, Isaac averaged 11.9 points, 2.3 blocks, 1.6 steals and 6.8 rebounds per game. He shot 47.0% from the field, including a decent 34.0% from the 3-point range. However, due to an ACL injury, Isaac missed the next two seasons. Had it not been for the injury, Isaac may have developed into a defensive force by now.
Some Magic fans believe that Isaac could have been a defensive player like Giannis Antetokoumpo by now, but that has not been the case. While ACL injuries are a huge blow, most athletes come back within a year or a little more. In Isaac’s case, he spent the last two seasons rehabbing his knee and even after he came back his game has not been the same.
Fans also believe that Isaac just wants the contract money and does not care about basketball enough. So if not basketball, where is his focus? It could be more towards his political stances.
About three years ago in the NBA Bubble, players were wearing a “Black Lives Matter,” T-shirt and were kneeling in support of the movement. However, Isaac refused to take the knee. He explained by saying “So I felt like, just me personally, what is that I believe is taking on a stance that, I do believe that Black lives matter, but I just felt like it was a decision that I had to make, and I didn't feel like putting that shirt on and kneeling went hand in hand with supporting Black lives.”
Jonathan Isaac Clothing Line
Isaac’s clothing line is called UNITUS. UNITUS, Isaac says, is much more than just another brand. He explained by saying that a lot of other companies dominate the sports and lifestyle apparel with divisive agendas, but UNITUS believes in one for all race, color, or caste.
Isaac does not believe in the woke culture so he decided to launch an anti-woke clothing apparel instead. Isaac is a multi-talented man. He is a father, husband, author, speaker, minister and a power forward for the Orlando Magic. He wants to create a brand that spreads positivity and all the teachings that he has learned by having faith in the Lord.
In 14 games so far in the 2023/24 season, Isaac is averaging 6.7 points, 1.4 blocks, 1.0 steals, 4.2 rebounds. His numbers have regressed ever since his ACL injury, but he still has a lot of untapped potential in him.
