Jose Alvarado

Jose Alvarado is a Puerto Rican point guard who is known for his pesky defense. Born on April 12, 1998 in Brooklyn, New York, Alvarado first made a name for himself at Christ the King Regional High School. As a junior, he won the Catholic High School Athletic Association Player of the Year award. In his senior season, Alvarado was named TimesLedger Player of the Year after leading his school to a New York State Federation Class AA championship.

Alvarado committed to play college basketball for Georgia Tech, where he continued to evolve his game over four seasons. Though undersized at 6-feet tall, he used his speed and instincts to become one of the best defenders in the ACC. As a senior in 2020-21, Alvarado averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.8 steals per game.

Despite his standout college career, Alvarado went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. He then signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, splitting time between the Pelicans and their G League affiliate.

Dubbed "Grand Theft Alvarado" for his ability to create steals, Alvarado makes life difficult for opposing ball-handlers. Lurking in passing lanes, he picks pockets before turning transition opportunities into easy baskets. His pesky style has made him a fan favorite in New Orleans. Now in his third NBA season, the undersized Alvarado continues to prove he belongs with his hustle and hoops IQ.
