Jrue Holiday, a basketball guard for the Boston Celtics, was born on June 12, 1990. Before being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft, California native Holiday played for the UCLA Bruins during the 2008–09 season. In 2013, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, where he played for seven seasons, following four seasons with the 76ers. In 2020, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, and then in 2023, he was traded to the Boston Celtics.

A two-time NBA champion, Holiday won championships with the Bucks in 2021 and the Celtics in 2024. He is regarded as one of the best defensive guards in NBA history. He averaged 12.5 points, 4.8 assists, and a career-high 5.4 rebounds in 2023–24. Holiday is a two-time All-Star and has been chosen to the NBA All-Defensive Team six times. In 2020 and 2024, he represented the United States at the Olympics and won a gold medal. As of November 3, 2024, he has played 981 games while averaging 16.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists as per Basketball Reference.

Jrue and Lauren met in 2008 while attending UCLA, where Jrue was a basketball player and Lauren played soccer. According to a 2015 interview with ESPN, Jrue met Lauren at a UCLA women's basketball game when a young fan requested his autograph, thinking he was his teammate Darren Collison. According to Jrue, Lauren turned to face him as soon as he sat down and said, "Don't worry, you're cuter than Darren is.”

In an interview Jrue said,

"And she was older than me, which was cool.” “I was a freshman, and I think she was a junior. At the time we were both with other people, but we did become friends, and months later, after I got drafted, we started dating."

They got married in 2013, and the FIFA Women's World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist Lauren retired from professional football in 2015. She gave birth to their first child, a daughter called Jrue Tyler, in North Carolina in September 2016, just a few weeks before she had to have brain surgery to remove a tumor. Hendrix, their son, was born in 2020.
