After being selected by the New York Knicks as the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA draft; he was immediately traded to the Charlotte Hornets. As of November 2024, Jones plays as a center/power forward for the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA and the San Diego Clippers in the NBA G League.

Jones played for the Texas Longhorns men's basketball team at the University of Texas at Austin during his collegiate basketball career from 2019 to 2021. As a freshman, he appeared in 27 games, averaging 3.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 16.7 minutes per game, according to his college profile. He was honored with the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team selection and earned a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team. He was named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2021.
