One of the team's most recent successes came in the 2019-2020 season, when they won the Italian league championship for the first time in 36 years. They also reached the Final Four of the EuroLeague (the premier professional basketball league in Europe), but were ultimately defeated by the eventual champion, CSKA Moscow.
Some of the team's biggest players in recent years include forward Luigi Datome (who was named Italian League MVP in 2019) and guard/forward Shavon Shields, who was named Italian League Finals MVP in 2020. They reached the final but fell to Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.
The team is also known for its strong fan base, with a large and passionate group of supporters known as the "Olimpia Tifosi." The team's home arena is the Mediolanum Forum in Assago, which has a seating capacity of 12,700.
In recent years, the team has also been sponsored by the fashion brand Armani Exchange. This has led to a change of the team name to AX Armani Exchange Milan. The team's colors are white, red and black, and its mascot is a lion named "Leoncino."
Olimpia Milano is one of the most successful and storied teams in European basketball and continues to be a force to be reckoned with on the court. With a talented roster, a dedicated fan base, and a strong sponsorship, the team looks set to continue its winning ways in the years to come.
Kemba Walker could help Olimpia Milano save their disappointing season
Armani Milan are reportedly finalizing a deal with 12-season NBA veteran Kemba Walker. According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the contract will be completed after the results of the medical tests.
Walker, 32, recently played for the Dallas Mavericks. He had a nine-game stint this season, averaging 8.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 42.1% shooting. Walker is a four-time NBA All-Star (2017–20) and has career averages of 19.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 750 games.
Milan are currently 17th in the EuroLeague standings, with a record of 6-13. They lack their main point guard, Kevin Pangos, who has been out with a knee injury since November 24. Coach Ettore Mesina recently said that Pangos will not be available until the end of February at least.
The addition of Kemba Walker could potentially bolster the team's performance as they look to improve their position in the league.
