Killian Hayes is a French-American point guard who plays for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA. Born on July 27, 2001, Hayes’ basketball journey began in Cholet, France, where he had settled with his family as his father pursued a career in the top French league, LNB Pro A. Growing up in a basketball environment, Hayes began playing at a young age, thanks to his father's professional background.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 meters), Hayes possesses exceptional size for his position, although he is not considered an explosive athlete. A left-handed player, Hayes has modeled his game after superstar James Harden. Hayes thrives as a pick-and-roll ball-handler and is comfortable operating in a half-court offense.

While displaying good shooting form, Hayes likes to shoot step-back jump shots just like his idol Harden. His strength lies in shooting off-the-dribble rather than catch-and-shoot. Notably, he excels in free throw shooting and exhibits soft touch around the basket.

In the 2022/23 season, Killian Hayes averaged 10.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game throughout 76 games for the Pistons.

Killian Hayes Draft

Killian Hayes was drafted from Germany in 2020. When he was drafted, Hayes was playing for German club ratiopharm Ulm. The Detroit Pistons selected Hayes with the seventh overall pick.

Before playing in Germany, Hayes played for Cholet Basket at youth level, his father's former club. Despite the opportunity to join the prestigious sports institute INSEP in Paris, he opted to continue his development at Cholet Basket because he was a fan of the club since his childhood.

Hayes began his professional basketball journey at Espoirs Cholet in LNB Espoirs, which is the French under-21 league. In the 2017/18 season, Hayes averaged 16.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game for Espoirs Cholet, and was named as the league MVP after the regular season. At just 16 years old, he made his debut for the Cholet senior team in October 2017, marking the beginning of his slow and steady growth in the European professional basketball scene.

In August 2019, Hayes signed a three-year contract with ratiopharm Ulm, a team in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) and the EuroCup. His time in Germany saw him emerge as one of the most promising young guards in the country.
