The 6-foot-2 point guard, Kenneth Simpson Jr., played collegiate basketball for the Colorado Buffaloes in the Pac-12 conference. Simpson’s father was inducted into the Hall of Fame at both the high school and college levels. As a four-star recruit, Simpson initially committed to the Arizona Wildcats but decided to withdraw after head coach Sean Miller was fired.

After withdrawing from the Wildcats, Simpson committed to play for the University of Colorado. In his freshman season, he appeared in 32 games but only made a single start. He led them in assists and steals and earned a place on the the Pac-12 All-freshman team.

In his sophomore season, Simpson was inserted into the starting lineup, playing 29 games and making 28 starts. The sophomore point guard averaged 15.9 points, 3.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds, shooting 81.7% from the FT line. In his second consecutive year, Simpson led the team in assists and steals earning a place in the All-Pac-12 second team.

In his junior season, Simpson improved his overall game and was also on the 2023/24 Naismith Trophy midseason watch list. He averaged 19.7 points, 4.9 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals, showcasing his all-around game from scoring to playmaking to rebounding. He led the team in points, assists and steals, while also being the Pac-12’s highest scorer and making the All-Pac-12 first team.

The point guard also made his first March Madness appearance. He recorded a double-double in the first four matchups against Boise State, 19 points and 11 rebounds, leading them to victory by 60-53. Simpson led the Buffaloes to their first-round victory over the Florida Gators by 102-100, recording 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal. His journey ended in the second round and he declared for the NBA Draft.
