Klay Thompson arrived at Capital One Arena keen to give the Dallas Mavericks their 15th win of the 2024-25 NBA season against a Washington Wizards team that has yet to win a game since November. The Mavericks have had to deal with Luka Doncic's absence in recent weeks, but they have stayed afloat thanks to Thompson and Kyrie Irving.
Thompson started the game struggling to get things going, first grabbing a defensive rebound before stepping out of bounds to turn the ball over before missing a jumper and a 3-point attempt. He scored his first two points off a Kyrie Irving assist for a layup.
Klay finished the first quarter with two points, one rebound and one assist as the Mavericks cruised to a 31-22 win to start the game.
Klay Thompson started the second quarter hitting a couple of shots to try to get hot, but nothing happened after his good start. He played 14 minutes in the first half of the game, scoring eight points, grabbing two rebounds and dishing one assist. The Mavericks had no mercy against the Wizards, entering halftime with a dominant 68-50 advantage.

The Dallas Mavericks would extend their lead by seven points in the third quarter (34-27), entering the final period with a 102-77 advantage. This situation allowed Jason Kidd to bench his starters sooner than expected. Thompson would only play seven minutes in the entire second half, adding only three points to his account.
He finished the game with 11 points after shooting 4-from-9 from the field and 3-from-5 from deep, grabbed two rebounds and dished two assists for the Mavericks. He was replaced by Jaden Hardy at 10:28 in the fourth quarter to close a discreet night individually speaking, but a great one for the Mavericks.

Klay Thompson is having a rough first season with the Mavericks
After joining the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA free agency, Klay Thompson has struggled to get things going early on in the season. He had a strong start with 22 points against the San Antonio Spurs in the season opener, but he was only able to score that same number against the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 12.
Thompson averages 12.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 37.8% from the field and 36% from deep. His performances have raised concerns around the league, as he was expected to be a solid third option for the Mavs.
