According to reports, the LA Lakers have expressed an interest in signing veteran big man DeMarcus Cousins. The move comes in the midst of the team struggling to stay afloat in Anthony Davis' absence. Although LeBron James has been turning back the clock and putting on stellar performances in recent weeks, it's no secret the team is missing Davis.

Cousins hasn't played since last season, when he and the Denver Nuggets lost to the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs. Although he has struggled to find a team willing to sign him this year, Cousins has remained one of the most notable free agents.

The news surfaced on Twitter courtesy of NBA Central via Bleacher Report, who reported that Cousins is expected to work out for the LA Lakers soon. Allegedly, Cousins has been working out six days a week in Las Vegas to get himself game-ready. With teams now eligible to sign players to 10 day contracts, 'Boogie' could very well find himself on a roster.

Can DeMarcus Cousins help keep the LA Lakers afloat?

Although Anthony Davis' rehab has been going according to plan, there has been little news regarding his targeted timeline for a return to the court. Earlier this week, Darvin Ham gave media members an update on his situation.

According to Ham, both AD and Lonnie Walker have undergone MRIs, with neither one showing anything surprising to the team. As a result, both men are moving towards return, however Davis' was dubbed a "process" by Ham.

With no timeline for when the former champion could return to action, it will be interesting to see how things play out should they sign his former Pelicans teammate.

Back in October, he spoke in an interview with Yahoo Sports where he pleaded with teams for another shot in the league. While owning up to the mistakes that he's made throughout his career, the 11-year NBA veteran couldn't help but question what it'd take for him to get another chance.

“I think the misperception of me is that I’m this angry monster that just goes around bullying people, beating people up, uncoachable, and a cancer in the locker room. I think it’s all false. I played for coach [John] Calipari, a legendary coach. I was more than coachable. Steve Kerr would attest to that and coach [Mike] Malone."

As the Lakers look to continue to fight for their place in the Western Conference standings, Cousins could take the opportunity to provide a massive spark. Although he has shown that he may not be able to replicate the success from his time in New Orleans, he's continued to show he's more than capable in a limited role.

Last season during his time with the Denver Nuggets, he set a franchise record, scoring 30 points in just 24 minutes. Do you think DeMarcus Cousins be able to help the Lakers keep going in Davis' absence? Give us your predictions in the comments below.
