LA Lakers vs Charlotte Hornets Prediction and Betting Tips | Jan. 27, 2024

The LA Lakers continue their six-game road trip with a pitstop in Charlotte to take on the Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Monday. Both teams meet for the first time this season after their clash earlier this month was postponed to a later date due to the wildfires in LA.

With three wins on the bounce, the Lakers are in the middle of one of the more impressive runs this season. While their trade activity buzz continues to make headlines, the side has managed to prop up solid wins ahead of this matchup. It's also worth noting that the side has a boost in the form of defensive powerhouse Jarred Vanderbilt.

The Hornets, on the other hand, will be without Brandon Miller, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. However, they are still a side coming off a blowout 123-92 win against the New Orleans Pelicans. They have LaMelo Ball to thank for as he continues to have a solid campaign, averaging 28.9 points and 12.6 assists per contest.

The Lakers won 124-118 in their last encounter against the Hornets with Anthony Davis leading the way with a triple-double — 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists. D'Angelo Russell (now in his second season with the Brooklyn Nets ) had 28 points while LeBron James propped up 26 points and seven assists.

LA Lakers vs Charlotte Hornets Preview

The Hornets are not a playoff side, not with their dismal 12-30 record as the season hits the halfway mark. However, the most dangerous side is the one that has nothing to lose. In LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, Charlotte still has that sting left in them and a win depends on how their offense responds against LA who have stifled the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors.

Charlotte are at the bottom rung in scoring offense. They are placed 28th on that front, averaging 107.5 points per game and 105.7 points per 100 possessions. They are last in field goal offense with 43.1%, and 25th in 3-point offense with 34.5%. In comparison, the LA Lakers are 17th in scoring offense averaging 111.5 PPG and 111.8 points per 100 possessions. They are eighth in FG offense with 47.5% and 19th in 3-point offense with 35.4%

The Lakers have played impressive defense in their last two games, and Jarred Vanderbilt's return further bolsters the side on that end of the floor. They are 15th in scoring defense with 112.7 points per game and allowing their opponents 112.2 points per 100 possessions. They allow 47.4% from the field, and their 16th placed beyond the arc defense concedes 36.2% of their 3s. The Hornets are 11th in scoring defense, allowing 110.9 points per 100 possessions.

LA Lakers vs Charlotte Hornets Predicted Starting Lineups

The Lakers have familiar faces in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, listed as probable with left ankle soreness and left plantar fasciitis, respectively. Rui Hachimura (left calf soreness) and Gabe Vincent (left knee soreness) are questionable. Jalen Hood-Schifino (left hamstring strain) and Christian Wood (left knee surgery recovery) are ruled out.

Expect LA to stick to the same starting lineup from their last game against the Warriors with Dorian Finney-Smith replacing Hachimura.

LA Lakers vs Charlotte Hornets Prediction

Form and momentum are with the LA Lakers as they head to Charlotte.
