Dort moved to Jacksonville, Florida's Arlington Country Day School as a sophomore to study English and compete.

Nelson Osse, his coach, advised him to improve his mediocre academic performance prior to relocation. At the Adidas Nations in August 2016, Dort led Canada to second place with an average of 11.3 points throughout six games. He received an invitation to the Nike Americas Team Camp later that month, where he was honored as the All-Star game's MVP.

For his junior year, Dort followed his former Arlington Country Day coach Shaun Wiseman to Conrad Academy in Orlando, Florida. He participated in the Nike Hoop Summit All-Star game and Adidas Nations in 2017. Dort also won team MVP at the BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Game with 30 points. Dort enrolled in Mono, Ontario's Athlete Institute, a prep school, as a senior. At the BioSteel All-Canadian Game in April 2018, he regained his MVP title with 34 points and 8 rebounds.
