Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves at American Airlines Center to continue the 2024 NBA Christmas Day games. The two teams that clashed in the 2024 Western Conference finals had another go at it, with the Slovenian player ready to lead his squad to the promised land.
The Mavericks have won three of their last five games and entered this game keen to extend their winning streak to three matchups.
Doncic was off to a strong start to the game, scoring eight points in the first six minutes, although the Mavs trailed the Timberwolves 17-15 with 6:07 on the clock. He finished the period with 11 points as the Mavericks' scoring leader.
Doncic added only three points in the second half, as the Mavericks were dominated by the Timberwolves 31-16 in the second quarter. The Slovenian, unfortunately, suffered a left calf strain in the second quarter, getting replaced by Spencer Dinwiddie at 2:31 in the second quarter. He was ruled out for the rest of the game at halftime, ending his participation on Christmas Day.

Doctor explains how long Luka Doncic could be out of action after latest injury
Dr. Evan Jeffries, who describes himself as a doctor of physical therapy and "injury insider" tried to shed light on the Luka Doncic injury. Along with a video of the possible play where Doncic hurt his left calf, Jeffries added that the Slovenian player has been dealing with that calf all season long, adding that his return to the court will depend on the severity of this new injury.
If it's Grade I, then Doncic could be up to two weeks away from the hardwood. If it's Grade II, the timetable could extend to four to six weeks of absence.
The Dallas Mavericks still survived without Luka Doncic on the court, but Kyrie Irving's 39-point effort wasn't enough to get past the Minnesota Timberwolves. Doncic's 14 points contributed to the 99 his team scored, but Minnesota managed its advantage and secured a 105-99 win to get revenge on the Mavericks after losing the Western Conference finals and the first regular-season matchup of this season.
The Mavericks dropped to 19-11, but still remain a top-four team in the West. They will return to action on Friday against the Phoenix Suns, hopefully with more details about Doncic's situation.
