During his two-year stint at Duke, Kennard made a significant impact on the basketball program. In his freshman season (2015/16), Kennard showcased his scoring prowess as an elite shooter. His 3-point shooting in college gave tons of trouble to opposing teams. Despite being a freshman, Kennard was a key contributor to the team's success, averaging 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

However, it was Kennard's sophomore season (2016/17) where he truly shone. He displayed remarkable consistency on the court, highlighted by impressive offensive performances such as scoring 35 points against Maine, 34 points against Wake Forest, and 25 points against Clemson. Kennard's contributions were instrumental in Duke's several victories throughout the season, including crucial wins in the ACC tournament.

Finishing his sophomore season with impressive averages of 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, Kennard earned accolades such as first-team All-ACC and second-team All-American honors. He demonstrated exceptional accuracy from both three-point range and the free-throw line, solidifying his reputation as a sharpshooter.

Despite his individual success, Kennard faced disappointment in the NCAA tournament when Duke suffered a second-round loss to South Carolina. Nevertheless, his talent and potential were evident, and after his sophomore season, Kennard made the decision to forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility and declare for the 2017 NBA Draft.

During his time at Duke, Kennard played with several future NBA players such as — Jayson Tatum, Grayson Allen, Harry Giles, Marques Bolden, Franck Jackson and Brandon Ingram.
