Born on December 16, 2001, in Norfolk, Virginia, Williams began his basketball journey at Norfolk Academy, where his potential was recognized as he received an invitation to the prestigious NBA Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, Virginia, in the summer of 2018. For the senior year, Williams was transferred to the IMG Academy where he emerged as a five-star recruit.

Continuing his basketball journey at Duke University, Williams displayed his elite talent and versatility as a center for the Blue Devil. With a couple of solid seasons at Duke, Mark Williams showed potential to be a defensive juggernaut and double-double machine in the NBA which is why in the 2022 NBA Draft, he was selected with the 15th overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets.

With his combination of size and skills, Mark Williams appears poised to become the franchise center for the Charlotte Hornets for years to come.
