Born in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, Matthew William Dellavedova built a keen interest in sports from a healthy young age. By age 10, he was playing multiple sports such as tennis and soccer but was exceptionally good at Australian football. But realizing his potential as a Basketball athlete, he gave up on football to focus on Basketball.
Seeing his talent in basketball, he was offered a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) in Canberra. Before leaving for the United States to play College Basketball, he represented AIS in the South–East Australian Basketball League (SEABL), averaging well over 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists in two years.
Dellavedova played College Basketball for Saint Mary’s College and played like a star through and through. In his four years at Saint Mary’s, he averaged 14.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game and received West Coast Conference (WCC) All-freshman selection, three-time All-WCC selection, and was the 2011-12 WCC player of the year.
Dellavedova surprisingly went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft, but soon got picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Matthew Dellavedova’s Height
Matthew Dellavedova stands 6 feet 3 inches tall (1.91m). Delly, as he is more popularly known, is considered one of the best Australian point guards in the NBA. Being shorter than most players on-court played to his advantage. He couldn’t score from inside the paint, but being a great passer he helped forwards and centers score consistently with clever passes.
Being 6’3 also allowed him to focus more on scoring from the mid-range and the three-point line than going for the layups. Delly averaged nearly 40% from the field and 36% from behind the arc.
Aside from his height, a combination of Physical Attributes immensely benefited Delly with his game and came to define his style of play.
Matthew Dellavedova’s Wingspan
Delly’s wingspan ranges between 6 feet 4 and 6 feet 6 inches. During his time at Saint Mary’s, Delly was among the top steal scorers and a large part of his success at perimeter defense was his long arms. His wingspan also played a role in him being an excellent, precise passer and shooter.
Matthew Dellavedova’s Weight
Matthew Dellavedova weighs between 200 and 210 lbs (90-95 kgs). Part of Delly’s excellence as a Point guard is his perfect body weight; he weighs just enough to be lightning fast when getting a steal, scoring the ball, defending other guards, and running for the loose ball to either retain or gain possession. A perfect example of Delly’s athleticism is the 2014 and 2015 NBA Finals.
What size Shoe does Matthew Dellavedova wear?
