Max Strus is a professional basketball player who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA as of March 2025. Strus went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, but he was named to the Boston Celtics Summer League and signed a two-way contract. However, the Celtics then waived him, and he signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls in 2019. Strus played only two games in the NBA regular season and was ruled out due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a bone bruise on his left knee. In November 2020, Strus went to the Miami Heat training camp and then his contract was converted to a two-way contract with the team. Strus played three seasons with the Heat and averaged 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Strus struggled in the 2022-23 NBA finals against the Denver Nuggets and was waived by the team after the season. In July 2023, Strus signed a four-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and 2024-25 is his second season with the team. As of March 2025, Strus is shooting 36.7% from the deep.

After graduating from high school, Strus played all four seasons of college ball at both Lewis University and DePaul. In his first season with DePaul, he made an impressive 81 3-pointers in just 31 games, demonstrating his prowess as a sharpshooter.

Max Strus Position

Max Strus plays as a small forward and shooting guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers. As a small forward, his role is to find the open lanes for cuts and create wide-open looks for himself.

Strus is also adept at driving to the basket and uses his quickness to drive past opposition defences. Moreover, he also has the size to grab crucial boards on both ends.

Max Strus Draft

After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, Strus initially signed two-way contracts with both the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls. Failing to make much of an impact with either team, Strus finally found his footing in the league after joining the Miami Heat in 2020. His breakthrough came in the 2021/22 season when he averaged 10.6 points in 68 games.

Strus also helped the Heat advance to the 2023 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Denver Nuggets in five games.

His first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers has been remarkable. Strus has reached career highs in various statistical categories, including starts, 3-point attempts per game, points, rebounds, and assists.
