Born on March 28, 1996, in Hickory Hills, Illinois, Max Strus is an American basketball player who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, Strus later signed a two-way contract with first the Boston Celtics and then the Chicago Bulls.
However, Strus’ real breakthrough came in 2021, when he signed a two-year $3.5 million contract with the Miami Heat. He impressed the coaches at Heat’s training camp in 2020, and made 5-8 3-pointers in a game against the Rockets in February 2021.
Strus is coming off a breakthrough season with the Cavs, making career high in starts, 3-point attempts per game, points, rebounds and assists. He is tied 43rd for most 3-pointers made in the 2023/24 season with Kevin Durant, making a total of 168 shots from deep. He has also improved his game defensively, allowing only 45.8% from the field.
Max Strus Trade
The Cleveland Cavaliers added former Miami Heat’s swingman Max Strus via a sign-and-trade deal involving three teams. Strus signed a four-year $63 million deal with the Cavs as part of a trade that also involved the San Antonio Spurs. The Cavs were desperately looking to add a wing, who is a threat from deep.
Strus was a key player for Miami in its run to the 2023 NBA Finals. He was ranked 21st in most 3’s made in the 2022/23 season. This persuaded the Cavs to trade for him.
