The Phoenix Suns have had Michael "Mike" Budenholzer as their head coach since May 2024. He was born in the United States, in Holbrook, Arizona. He was named the 1993 Outstanding Senior Athlete and spent four years playing basketball and golf for Pomona College. In 1991, Budenholzer played for the Pentland in the Scottish National Basketball League for four months while attending the University of Edinburgh. Later, in the 1993–94 season, he played professionally with Vejle Basketball Klub in Denmark, where he averaged a team-high 27.5 points per game. In September 2015, he was inducted into the Pomona-Pitzer Hall of Fame.
Budenholzer's coaching career began in 1996 with the San Antonio Spurs, under then-head coach Gregg Popovich. He served as their alternate video coordinator for two seasons and assistant coach for 17 seasons. Following that, from 2013 to 2018, he served as the Atlanta Hawks' head coach. He was then hired by the Milwaukee Bucks for five seasons, winning the 2021 NBA championship too. He signed with the Suns in May 2024.
