Born in Monroe, New York, Michael Edward Tobey grew up being influenced by his parents Kathleen and Ken Tobey who were student athletes in their younger days. Mike took to Basketball at an early age and was a standout player at Blair Academy, averaging twenty-one points and nine rebounds per contest.
Tobey received offers from the top Basketball programs in the country but chose to commit to the University of Virginia. Mike played four years with the Virginia Cavaliers and finished his collegiate stint in 2016 with a career average of 6.8 points, four rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.
Despite being a decent College Basketball athlete, Mike went undrafted in 2016 but soon signed with Charlotte Hornets to play in the Summer League. Later that year, the Greensboro Swarm acquired Mike to play in the NBA G League and he made the most of the opportunity by averaging 12 points, 0.8 steals, and 1.2 rebounds, per game. After a call-up to the Hornets that lasted only two games, Mike decided to take his talents to the European Basketball scene.
