The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the most recognizable franchises in the NBA. And there is only one reason for that — Giannis Antetokounmpo. With his rise to the top of the NBA world, the Bucks have become more recognized as a franchise.

With a player like Antetokounmpo, every season begins with one and only one expectation — a championship. Fans and media alike shine their spotlights onto the Milwaukee Bucks once the regular season starts and every single move and game they play will be under scrutiny. Antetokounmpo is a two-time league MVP, and averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game for the Bucks last season.

Additionally, the acquisition of superstar Damian Lillard this offseason means the Bucks now have one of the strongest rosters in the league. Lillard is a seven-time All-Star and averaged 32.2 points per game in the 2022/23 season for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Milwaukee Bucks Championship Years

The Milwaukee Bucks have won two championships till date, in 1971 and 2021. The team will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing first round exit in the playoffs last season.

When was the last time the Milwaukee Bucks won an NBA championship?

The Milwaukee Bucks won their last title in 2021. In the 2020-21 regular season, the Bucks stayed under the radar. They were the third seed in the East and went into the playoffs fully healthy.

In the first round, the Bucks swept the Miami Heat and then faced second seed the Brooklyn Nets, who had Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden at the time. This was one of the best seven-game series in recent history as in the first two games, the Nets walloped their way to a 2-0 lead. This was without James Harden, who left early in Game 1 with a hamstring injury.

Game 3 saw the game go down to the wire with Jrue Holiday sealing the game with a clutch bucket. The Bucks won Game 4 convincingly at home and the series was tied 2-2. After splitting the next two games, the series came down to an epic Game 7 which was as close as it could be. With two titans of the game trading baskets, the game went to overtime where it was the Bucks who prevailed through resilience and grit.

In the Conference Finals, the Bucks faced the up-and-coming Hawks led by Trae Young. The Hawks shocked the Bucks by winning Game 1 in Milwaukee but the Bucks showed them who they were by winning Games 2 and 3. Tragedy struck Milwaukee in Game 4 as they lost their franchise player to a hyperextended knee. It didn’t matter as the Bucks won Games 5 and 6 and advanced to their first NBA Finals in nearly 50 years.

In the Finals, the Bucks faced the Phoenix Suns, who were led by Chris Paul and Devin Booker. The Suns looked like they were on a mission, winning the first two games. But just like every series, the Bucks showed grit and championship mentality and they won the next four games, clinching their first championship in 50 years.
