Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies: Key matchups
Ja Morant vs. Anthony Edwards
Ja Morant against Anthony Edwards is the matchup to watch out for in the Timberwolves-Grizzlies rematch. The two superstars will not take on each other for long stretches, but there will be a span when they will guard each other.
In the first game between the two teams, Morant tallied only 12 points, but he scored the last four points of the game. In the first basket, G12 drove past Ant-Man before scoring a layup over Rudy Gobert. One possession later, Morant made a fadeaway jumper over Edwards for the go-ahead basket.
Edwards prides himself in his defense, which Ja Morant beat in two straight possessions late in the game. Expect the two to go after each other again, particularly if the game becomes another seesaw battle in crunch time.
Zach Edey vs. Rudy Gobert
Zach Edey held his own on both ends of the court against Rudy Gobert, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. The Grizzlies rookie was nearly just as impactful as Gobert in protecting the paint and crashing the boards.
Neither player gets a ton of touches on offense, but it will be another interesting matchup every time one of them catches the ball deep. Edey arguably outplayed Gobert in the first meeting, making it likely for the Frenchman to try and win the rematch.
Julius Randle vs. Jaren Jackson Jr.
Jaren Jackson Jr. had his way against Julius Randle in the first game, finishing with 33 points on 13-24 shooting. The Grizzlies contained Morant but Randle allowed JJJ to dominate him. How Randle responds will be another interesting subheading in the rematch.
