The opening day of the 42nd Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship for boys and girls organised by the Basketball Federation of India and the Pondicherry Basketball Association at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium started on Tuesday and the Haryana girls team that took on the hosts saw one player catch the attention of everybody.
Wearing a number 15 jersey, Miraya Vadra, the daughter of Priyanka Gandhi was in action for the visitors and though her team eventually lost the match by a good margin of 22 points, it certainly didnt take the spotlight away from Miraya.
Mrs Gandhi is presently in the city to watch her daughter play and expectedly, security in and around the hotel where the two are staying has been beefed up.
Speaking about his team’s performance, Haryana coach Mathab Singh said that the girls were tired after three days of travelling and felt that barring the opening round, the team did well in the remaining matches.
“Our kids were too tired since they travelled three days by train to reach Puducherry. Except in the first round, I feel the team did well in all other rounds.” he told the Hindu.
