The Lakers may have a long-term plan to attract Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis, however, there is no guarantee that either of these trades will ever happen. Magic Johnson believed that he could wait and sign Paul George as a free-agent, although this plan backfired as PG13 snubbed his hometown in favor of staying on one of the smallest markets in the NBA.
Even before Beal indicated that he wanted out, the Wizards were already exploring trading away the player, so it appears that the Lakers have a great shot at signing the All-Star. Making a move for Beal will eliminate the possibility that the Lakers could miss out on pairing a second star with James this summer and it will also better equip the team to make a serious challenge for the Championship this season.
