#2 Dennis Smith Jr.
Dennis Smith Jr. was ranked as one of the most promising point guards going into the 2017 NBA draft, and the Dallas Mavericks managed to pick him up as the 9th overall pick. The 21-year-old had played just one season of college basketball for NC State University, however, the Mavericks had seen enough potential to believe that Smith could become the teams future starting point guard.
During his rookie season in Dallas, Smith Jr. benefited from a lack of depth and quality on the team's roster to immediately become the teams starting guard. The youngster averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in his debut year, and his performances resulted in Smith Jr. making the NBA's All Rookie-Second Team. The point guard has continued to improve in his second season, increasing his field goal percentage to .437 and Smith has also formed an exciting partnership with Luka Doncic.
